FAQs

Bookings

Most common questions are answered in our knowledge base.

Booking Online - Do I need a credit card?
In order to book online you will need a valid credit card (we only accept Visa or MasterCard) or if you are booking from the UK for a hostel in the UK we accept debit cards (only switch). You can not book another way. (back to top)

What amount is taken off my card upon booking, and what is it for?
When you book with Uk-hostels, we process a 10% deposit (downpayment). This amount will not be refunded to you on arrival at the hostel, but acts as a part payment. The balance of 90% of your accommodation as shown on your booking confirmation is due on arrival at the hostel. We do not charge you a separate booking fee like most other online booking sites. Our service is free. (back to top)

If I don't have a credit/debit card can I still book?
No. Unfortunately you can only book using a credit card or if booking within the UK, you can use a debit card (switch only). (back to top)

Can I use someone else's credit card if I do not have one?
Yes, as long as you have their full permission to use their card, then it is ok. You would need to make the card holder aware that if you are a no show, or do not cancel within the cancellation time, the credit card will be charged for the first nights stay. (back to top)

If I am getting a credit/debit card error while I am booking or waiting for my confirmation,
what can I do?

There may be some reasons why your credit card transaction will not go through. Please check the following and try again:
  • There may be insufficient funds to cover the transaction being booked or there may be a problem with your card, please check with your bank.
  • Your details that you have filled in may not be complete.
  • Please check that this is not the reason and try to complete your transaction again.

Do I need to book in advance?
We would recommend that you book far in advance in order to avoid disappointment and to make sure you get a bed at the hostel you would like to stay at. Many hostels are booked up well in advance during high season, weekends, holiday periods or during special events. (back to top)

If you have accidentally made a mistake in your booking, whether it's booking the wrong rooms, or the wrong dates, you do not have to rebook, just contact the hostel and change your bookings with them.

Can I cancel a booking or amend my booking on UK-hostels
No, if you need to cancel or amend your bookings you would need to contact the hostel and do so directly with them. We are not able to do this for you. In the event of a cancellation you need to give 48 hours notice, or the hostel will charge you for the first nights stay (though we suggest to check the hostels special terms before booking as this may differ). In any cancellation or amendment please be aware that the deposit is not refundable. (back to top)

I have a problem with an existing booking already made
For a problem relating to a specific hostel you should contact the hostel directly. If you experience problems with using the Uk-hostels website then let us know and we will look into it. (back to top)

In the hostel

Do the hostels have age restrictions or limitations?
This can change from hostel to hostel. Most hostels will accept any guest between the ages of 18 - 35. Some hostels will take under 18`s but you have to be accompanied by an adult and stay in a Private room. In general, it is groups that are the major issue and care should be taking - for example - if you are a group of 20 persons under 18. If you are an individual or couple and have concerns, then read the hostel description. If there is nothing written then this should be fine. (back to top)
